Are you one of those people who have stashed old baskets in the back of the garage, waiting to put them in a yard sale or just throw them away? Well, don’t do that because those baskets can be revitalized!
Bringing these baskets back to life is simple, and will give you nifty bathroom organizers to boot. Not only will they help you make use otherwise unusable space, it means you’ll have room in your cabinets to store other essential items.
Were there any old shelves that you set out in the yard sale? Did you sell them or are they still in the garage? If they didn’t sell either, start checking out what you can do with your bathroom walls and let the creative side of your mind kick in.
Most likely the shelves will need a new coat of paint before you start building your organizer. You have your choice of all sorts of paint you can use. Spray, or paint the first layer, and after it’s dry you can do a second coat. You might have to sand the wood first if there are any chips or scratches.
Any left over paint you might have, enamel, ceramic, etc., will work fine for this project. When the paint has completely dried, see if you might want to add something more to the shelves, but be careful not to get carried away.
If you already have a “theme” in your bathroom, be sure to choose your shades and colors so they will go with what’s already there and doesn’t create extra work for you.
You can use contrasting colors on your shelves, or stencils, stamps, and even hand drawn designs, or just paint it with your favorite color to start with.
As soon as you’re sure the shelves have dried completely you can mount them wherever you choose to on your walls. I like to stagger mine on the wall so they’re not in rows.
A lot of your decisions will depend on how much space this project will need. First thing is deciding what area you want to use and where the shelves go – then you can mount them on the walls.
Now that you have this additional space, you can plan to put attractive things on the shelves. This is where the use of the creative baskets will be a lot of fun. Baskets can offer so many different sizes, shapes, and colors, so be sure to place them in ways they compliment each other and you like how they look.
Since we already have chosen the baskets we want to use, it’s time to get creative once more and start enhancing them. One of the reasons baskets are great to use is the ease of cleaning them, just a quick dip in soapy warm water and then dry them out. One of the perks of putting them in the bathroom is the moisture helps keep them from drying out.
And if for any reason you don’t like them as they are, just start decorating them as well. Take the same approach as with the shelves: paint and decorate the baskets. When you have finished painting the baskets, be sure to spray a clear sealer spray to set the colors, and to keep out any moisture.
Remember, you can do stamps, ribbons, or stickers on the baskets, as you did with the shelves, so be as creative as you want. Your bathroom will have guests talking about it, and you’ll have more space in your bathroom as well as being proud of your hard work.
When the shelves are mounted and the baskets are ready, you can begin using those baskets to hold a myriad of items that will then give you more space in cabinets. One of your “new” baskets can be used for all the nail care tools and polish that is currently stuffed in the cupboard.
